Montgomery wins SoCal Regional D-III boys volleyball title
The postseason has been sweet for the Montgomery High boys volleyball team.
After finishing in third place in the Metro Mesa League, the Aztecs have been on cruise control.
Montgomery defeated host Murrieta Valley 25-17, 28-26, 25-3 on Saturday to win the Southern California Regional Division III championship.
The Aztecs’ latest victory came after a win in the regional quarterfinals over Madison and a triumph in the semifinals over Pomona Diamond Ranch. All of that earned No. 2 Montgomery (26-6) a trip to Riverside County to face top-seeded Murrieta Valley.
A week earlier, the Aztecs won their first San Diego Section title under coach Debbie Isaia, who is in her eighth season guiding the program.
“It’s the first (SoCal) championship ever at Montgomery. We made history again,” Isaia said. “I’m just so thankful and blessed to be a part of this community. I’m honored and humbled. I don’t have any words.”
Senior captains Trevor Jurlina had 13 kills and Jesus Rodriguez had 18 kills.
